Truckee River Day October 20th

Truckee River Watershed Council is planning the 24th annual Truckee River Day, October 20.

Community members and the Truckee River Watershed Council will be working side-by-side with other volunteers to improve riparian areas, plant native seedlings and willows, remove invasive plants, seed and mulch sensitive areas, and more.

The event will be held on Oct. 20. Projects will start at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. depending on location and go to around 2:30. Full day projects include building a new boardwalk across wetlands at Donner Camp, helping with meadow restoration, seeding, mulching and planting willows in Perazzo Meadows and installing willow wattles along Squaw Creek to help stabilize eroding stream banks.

Volunteers can work on half day projects at Dry Creek in Russell Valley, Martis Wildlife area, McIver Dairy, and Sagehen and Tahoe Donner.

After the work day  volunteers and community members alike can celebrate the Truckee River at the River Fair. The River Fair will be from 1pm to 4 p.m. at Granite Flat Campground, with a native Lahontan Cutthroat Trout release at 3 p.m. The fair will feature fun environmental educational activities for kids and adults. The River Fair is presented in partnership with Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships and food will be provided free of charge by Northstar California.
